Nicolo Amati violin

The Cremona family of Andrea Amati extended over 150 years. Nicolo Amati, grandson of Andrea, continued the family tradition after the death of his father, Girilamo , in 1630 of the plague. His larger and acoustically more powerful instruments brought it him fame and reknown! Later smaller instruments may have been produced by his son, Girilamo II. Varnishes of he highest quality frequently were orange-red.
